Blood glucose lowering checklist.

For a woman who has diabetes, going through peri-menopause can be a blood sugar roller coaster!

Changing hormone levels, weight gain, disrupted sleep, insulin resistance, protein, fat,  stress, anxiety and changes in types of exercise are all factors that can affect your blood sugars.

Achieving consistent lower blood sugars is more than just cutting carbohydrates and sugar.

This is why I developed this checklist. Based on my Mind, Nutrition and Lifestyle (MNL) method it was written specifically keeping women with diabetes going through peri-menopause in mind.   It was developed for women who want to feel more confident in their bodies and more in control with their diabetes. No fad diets. No extreme exercise regimes. No restrictions.

Hi! I am Elsie and I have been a dietitian for more than 20 years, specialising in diabetes for 15 years.

I have a Masters Degree in Clinical Research, a B.Sc. Degree in Dietetics and a Post Graduate Certificate in Sports and Exercise Nutrition. I am also a King's College FODMAP trained dietitian and has done further studies in Nutrition for Fertility!

I have helped my clients improve their understanding of diabetes, whilst supporting them achieving more stable blood sugars, lower HbA1C and improved health.

The most common misconception I see,  working as a diabetes dietitian,  is that because carbohydrates raise blood sugars, it should be restricted or even avoided. This then leads to unnecessary restricted diets and can even develop into disordered eating.  Whereas it is true that carbohydrates raise blood sugars, carbohydrates are just one of many factors that can cause blood sugars to go up and all of these factors need to be considered and addressed when you want to achieve and maintain long term lower blood sugars AND overall health (because to be healthy is more than just low blood sugars right?). This is why I created this checklist. To support you in your journey to lower your blood sugars by looking at all aspects that can can affect your blood sugars whilst also considering your overall health.

I hope you find my checklist insightful and helpful.

Take care!
